This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the overall objective ofdeveloping hierarchicaloligonucleotide primer extension(HOPE) as a tool to identify fecalcontamination sources. The experimental approach included the following: develop a set of primers to identify human andnonhuman fecal contamination;test on feces collected from known origins,formulate evaluation criteria;validation - test on blind samples, test on environmental waters; and,evaluate HOPE results with fecal coliform test.
