Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the City of Houston's water distribution system. The topic of water quality modeling is presented and includes a map of zone of influence - average day demand, water age results - average day demand, complaints and zones of influence, 2005, and trihalomethane formation results - average day. Topics presented on storage tank modeling include storage tank mixing - computational fluid dynamics, reducing inlet diameter improves storage tank mixing, maximizing the inflow water length improves tank mixing, good mixing when filled by both surface water and groundwater, less than optimal mixing when groundwater supply is turned off, and stratification and poor mixing when the flow is further reduced and two inlets were used. The topic of unidirectional flushing (UDF) covers UDF observations, and pipe scale.
