Potassium permanganate is a widely accepted chemical for the treatment of taste and odor causing compounds. Because of the insoluble byproduct of permanganate oxidation, manganese dioxide, the potassium permanganate must be consumed prior to clarification. To ensure that this occurs, an accurate determination of potassium permanganate demand is necessary. It has been shown that the potassium permanganate demand increases with increasing dosage. For this reason, a graphical technique which assumes that this demand increases is linear related to increasing dosage has been developed. The technique is presented in this paper.
