As the largest network of privately-owned drinking water utilities in the US, it is the American Water System (AWS) philosophy to plan ahead to ensure that its facilities comply with new regulations as they develop. West Virginia-American Water Company (WVAWC) is the 5th largest operating company in the AWS serving over 300,000 people via 15 water treatment plants through 26 public water supply systems. These systems range in size from large to very small. Several phases of evaluations have occurred to assess whether WVAWC's existing corrosion treatments would enable the systems to meet the LCR Action Levels. It has been no small task to coordinate LCR monitoring and reporting programs for this number and range of systems. Acquisitions and consolidations of systems in mid-LCR; and serving water across state lines presented some special challenges. With initial LCR monitoring completed for WVAWC systems, all are in compliance with Lead and Copper Action Levels and monitoring and reporting requirements. Several of WVAWC systems' experiences are highlighted. Overall, the medium systems benefitted from the experiences of the large systems, and the small systems have benefitted from the experiences of the large and medium systems.
