Full Description

This paper describes how the future water needs of the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado, could be met through the year 2042 and beyond from water reclamation using developed or available water resources. An increase in water use efficiency can be achieved through reclaiming water in Fountain Creek that is augmented by city discharges of treated effluent, and delivering a potable quality water back into the water distribution system. The City's staff has been actively involved in recent years with maximizing the reclamation potential of the existing developed sources by exchanging wastewater return flows for additional water supplies in the Arkansas River Basin. This paper evaluates the feasibility of reclaiming waters to Fountain Creek from the Las Vegas Wastewater Treatment Plant and other treated water sources, and using appropriate levels of treatment to make those waters available for further use in the city.
