This article presents important issues surrounding risk assessment for inorganic compounds in drinking water. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive document of health effects research needs for specific inorganics in drinking water, but rather a glimpse into the future toward the broad research needs in 2000 and beyond. Although many of the issues discussed are not specific to inorganics, they are addressed within this context. Includes 4 references, figure.
