Significant improvements in water treatment plant effectiveness can often be achieved through operational changes or minor plant modifications. This paper presents examples of changes at water treatment plants which improved effectiveness. Examples for each conventional water treatment plant process are discussed sequentially starting with raw water supply and pumping, and going on to rapid mixing and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, clearwells, treated water pumping, distribution, and general maintenance.
