This brief paper discusses possible uses of the findings from a conference called Drinking Water and Health in the Year 2000. Conference participants recommended development and adoption of a risk assessment framework to generate needed facts. They also identified criteria for selecting drinking water research projects and objectives for research by category of drinking water contaminant. It is hoped that the conference's recommendations will stimulate national debate.
