Full Description

The use of electricity for water supply and treatment is increasing due to demands for increased service and new regulations for upgraded treatment. Options available to control the electricity costs in water systems may consist of technological changes, improved management, and participation in electric utility sponsored demand-side management programs. Appropriate options for a specific water system will vary depending on the system characteristics, availability of electric utility programs to assist the water utility, and adequate funding and management skills to implement changes. Many electric utilities have developed or are considering programs that will encourage energy efficient use of electricity in the water industry that will be beneficial to the customer in lower electric bills and to the electric utility by improved and cost-effect load management.
