Exposure to high levels of lead in the environment causes adverse health effects, particularly in young children. Interest in seeing exposure to lead lowered has resulted in a number of lead-related bills being introduced into the 102nd Congress. Although most of the bills include drinking water in some way, only H.R. 2840 and its companion S. 1445 contain provisions that substantially affect drinking water suppliers. The history, status, and drinking water provisions of these two bills are the focus of this review. Includes reference, tables.
