SYSMOD, the Santa Clara Valley Water District's system simulation model, simulates the District's operation of a user defined facilities data base in order to estimate the feasibility of a facility configuration applied to projected future water demands and varied hydrology. Graphical representations of preliminary SYSMOD simulations show historical annual supply compared to a projected future water demand and a cumulative groundwater subbasin storage. The Santa Clara Valley water system consists of reservoirs, conveyance facilities, recharge facilities, and treatment plants. The model operates each facility according to operation guidelines to simulate efficient use of available water supplies. The monthly simulation is a long-term planning tool used to evaluate new facilities. The computer program is a menu-driven FORTRAN program which stores all the input data in the database, allows the user to update any data, verifies the data within reasonable limits, simulates the given water demand, hydrology, facility configuration, and imported water, and generates reports of input and output data. This paper discusses the model in terms of its data files; the simulated facilities; model subsystems; and example output reports.
