Full Description

The application of ozone requires an understanding of its rate of decomposition. The residual ozone concentration in solution at any time depends on the ozone demand and in part determines the extent of ozone's reaction with pollutants and microorganisms. Thus, ozone demand studies are important in determining the ozone dose required to treat a given water or to comply with disinfection requirements. This paper tests an existing model for ozone demand with drinking waters. The effects of pH and total organic carbon (TOC) on ozone demand in three drinking waters are examined. In addition, mass transfer and chemical models are combined and used to describe the ozone profile during semi- batch ozonation of a raw water.
