Full Description

Pilot studies were conducted to evaluate the treatability of Eagle Mountain Lake water using alternative treatment processes. Tests were performed to optimize coagulant doses and to evaluate the effects of preozonation and the performance of various filter media at various filtration rates. Six oxidation/disinfection processes were evaluated: chlorination, chloramination, preozonation followed by chlorination and by chloramination, and ozone/hydrogen peroxide followed by chlorination and by chloramination. The purposes of the study were to determine: removal of Giardia-sized particles by alternative processes; effect of ozone on filtration rate; performance of the various disinfectant processes; control of trihalomethanes and other disinfection byproducts; taste and odor control. This paper briefly describes the raw water quality and then discusses each area of study.
