This paper discusses the evaluation of prestressed concrete pipelines to locate corroding or damaged sections to prevent failures and allow for orderly repair or replacement. Essential requirements for investigation include a thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the construction of the pipe as well as the installation environment. Piping characteristics; common defects that occur during manufacture and installation; and modes of deterioration, particularly corrosion, are described.
