The Benefits of MultipleCoagulation Scheme Studies are listed, along with materials and methods that include: Microorganisms and surrogate;Assays performed;Experimental conditions;Operating conditions; and,Pilot-scale treatment plant details. Conclusions were that: "conventional" coagulation can produceorders of magnitude greater levels ofremovals for microorganisms than "directfiltration" coagulation;direct filtration is typically practiced onpristine source waters, which may notnecessitate extremely high levels ofmicroorganism removal;coagulant dose is a very important variablein determining particle removal in watertreatment; microorganism removals can vary over 5orders of magnitude depending on thecoagulation conditions;virus and bacteria appeared to be moredifficult than Cryptosporidium to remove inthe present study; and,similar studies (multi-organism/multicoagulationscheme at a single site) couldsignificantly improve our understanding ofpathogen removal during water treatment.
