Full Description

A study was conducted to determine the optimum location for a new water intake in Lake Michigan where the potential impact of pollution and the possibility of cryptosporidiosis spores in the intake water would be minimized. The primary objective of the study was to recommend the optimum location for a new intake inlet. Several alternative locations were evaluated. An initial site assessment identified several issues to be addressed in order to determine the optimum location for the intake pipeline and for the inlet. Construction of the proposed intake in the most economical basis and in the minimum time possible was also of great importance. To meet the construction deadline, a timeline was developed to determine the most schedule-sensitive tasks and the optimum process in which the above issues needed to be addressed.
