This paper examines the substantial benefits of ferric chloride as the primary coagulant and provides information on modifications necessary to avoid problems. Results of design investigations are presented to demonstrate that, with an in-depth assessment of the primary coagulant system, prevention of failures and mitigation of operational concerns is possible.
