New research findings verified by electron photomicrographs indicate that the efficiency of coagulation is less influenced by zeta potential than was formerly believed. Adsorption of potentialdetermining ions and bridging explain the observed phenomena better than the generally held double-layer theory of coagulation. Also discussed are the conventional jar test and aluminum hydroxide sol. Includes 9 references Illustrations.
