The Denver Water Department's potable reuse demonstration project is a $22 million effort undertaken cooperatively with the Environmental Protection Agency. Concern over safety and quality has been the starting point for Denver's project. The intensive program necessary to adequately address the safety question involves a variety of disciplines - organic and inorganic chemistry, microbiology, virology, health effects research, and public relations. All of these activities have been designed into Denver's program so that when technical and economic feasibility have been demonstrated, health professionals and the general public will be able to make intelligent decisions on the acceptability of potable reuse in Denver. Includes 6 references, tables, figures.
