For more than 30 years the Philadelphia Suburban Water Company, a utility whose several sources of supply provide raw water of widely varying characteristics, has conducted an ongoing study program to measure and minimize corrosion in its distribution system. Experiments conducted with both iron piping and copper service lines indicate that bimetallic phosphate addition is a promising treatment to arrest corrosion without unwanted side effects or unwanted cost.
